That's true if you install the sub while the silicone is still wet. But once it's dry (1-6 hours) its all good...

 

Agreed its true. Seen quite a few rotted w0 and punch surrounds courtesy of silicone fumes attacking the foam surrounds. I dont use liquid nails, frankly I think the crap is overrated. Instead I use Elmer's probond - now THAT is a glue! Like gorilla glue but better! The only drawback is the cost.

Many of my spl boxes were initially assembled with conventional wood glue. In such cases a copious amount was used, then after the box was built, I'd apply a thick bead line along all seams, one plane at a time. Typically these additional glue seams would take 24hours to completely dry so a box would take 4 days to build. The on top of that would go fiberglass to truely make the box air tight.

 

Never said to use the silicone as an adhesive, only a sealant. The Elmers, along with a few brads and several coarse thread #8 screws, works great for me for gluing.

 

btw - im impressed with that subzone box. First prefab that has EVER impressed me structurally. I need to get ahold of one to see how it sounds as well and to inspect the carpeting and seams. Gotta keep tabs with the competition!

Thats about the pefect box size for most 12s too...how much power will you be giving the Adires?
