i always like to reccomend infinity kappa perfects (i have three) but i think a JL W3v2 would be the ticket. the infinty kappas i have are getting 400 watts a piece and when turned up they clip (cut out) because they are wanting more power. their peak is something rediclious like 1200 watts so those things are very very power hungry. if i read it right you wanted to run the sub and your door speakers off of this mono amp? i dont think thats possible. i think you need a multiple channel amp to run the door soeakers. a good friend of mine has a 400 watt kicker amp running a 12" W3V2 in a custom ported box and that thing just hammers. i love it. ive tried to buy it many times but he wont sell it. both infinity kappa perfects and JL subs can be found pretty cheap brand new off of e-bay i got mine there and i think paid 120 a piece for the kappas. hopefully i added a little insight to your quest. but whatever you do....please no sony. JUNK!

 

well, before i throw my hat in the ring, i'd have to know how much space you have available and what type of box you want based on the kind of music you predominantly listen to and the vehicle you are putting it in...sorry if it has already been stated, but i didnt catch it as i read through the post. if it is an extended cab truck, i'd stay with a small (i.e. 10") sub with a little larger q factor to get a lot of punch and some deep. diamond audio makes great subs for this set up...i would imagine that both phoenix gold and mb quart would make a sub that would fit in this category too. these subs will be high quality and very accurate. if you have a 4runner or are just wanting a high spl, a larger sub (i.e. 12") in a ported box would fill out your space better (remember that in a smaller cab, like a truck, you dont have enough room to get into the sweet spot of the sound wave so the ported option is going to be lost on you...will sound really great about 4 feet out front of your hood though!) in this case, i'd go with either a kicker solo-baric L7, a RF, or infinity. all three will have enough accuracy in a ported box to give you fidelity but they will shine in the spl category. if you have the ohms rating on the amp to go down to 2ohm, i would go with dual 4ohm voice coils on any of the set ups...well, that's my $0.02. good luck.

 

I am running 2 Rockford Fosgate P2 8" subs @ 2 ohms each with a Punch 25 to Life 75. Each box is .28sqft and they hit very hard. I don't listen to a whole lot of bass, but I can and will without issue.

I also like the Infinity subs, but the new Fosgate subs are nice (and $100 for the pair). Installed behind a bench seat in my 85 standard cab, 2 subs, 2 amps, 4 mids.

<edit> I'm 6'4", so my seat is all the way back too.

don't know if you've bought any subs yet, but with the 3 12-inch pioneer premiers that i had, i could consistently hit over 160 db, and they really don't cost too much for that kind of performance...

 

my kickers make peoples heart hurt..

in my 4runner i have 2 mtx 5500 and a phoenix gold 1200wat amp and it sounds great. but if you are worried about room..... thats a lame excuse by the way.$200 will get you something ok for what you are looking for but i think you may have to spend a little more to get one very high quality that hits with good range. phoenix gold is awsome and they make pretty good products but just because you havent heard of them doesnt mean they suck. and i have had a pair of alpine type r they were better than the mtx 5500s
anybody have advice for bigger alternators? or a power cap for the dimming lights

 

go with a kinetik power cell instead of one of those crappy power caps...i ran this on my system, and these little puppies will even start your truck for you...trust me, you will not be disappointed!

 

Do the 'BIG 3' wire upgrade first. caps are a waste of money.

haha, well mine would make the truck literally start falling apart, as one time at a spl competition, the plastic piece that snaps down on top of my rear bumper vibrated off...still ended up gettin 1st place though...

 

it's all in what enclosure you use(type and size) and to an extent the amp you use. you can pretty much any sub do what want depending on the enclosure you use. you can make a 8'' sub sound big and boomy. you can make a 15'' sup sound small and tight(it require a bunch of power to control a sub like that in that manner). most companies have their 'musical' or SQ subs and they'll have SPL subs. I'm an SQ guy, I like 'clean' bass and it doesn't have to be really loud. my main point is to look at the spec sheet and I don't mean just looking at the power rating, look past that spec. they're there for a reason. and if you do just look at power rating specs only look at the RMS rating. the max or peak rating is the BS rating

 

Go with Re Audio subs..Re Audio subs has SQ/SQL (except the MT model) all day...Who needs subs??

 

JL's are awesome. i ran 4 12W3's in my old truck and it was loud. check out www.onlinecarstereo.com the prices are very good. you can the JL's cheap.

Im giving them right around 500 watts and they sound GREAT in a sealed box. Much better than my old alpine type R's in a ported box. I also think they sound better than my step bros sealed infinities with about 800 watts.

all well with in your price range, and will provide good bump excellent sound and not annoying

 

Type-r's bang period. They arent the greatest for sound quality but they bang. It all depends on your box. 2cu ft. tuned at 40hz is optimal for a 12" type-r. If you want sound quality a type-x is where its at but theyre power hungry and your amp would way under power it.

A 10" sub will hit tighter and quicker than a 12" or 15" so maybe try subs in the 10" flavour since it wont distort out on quick beats.

NO matter what sub you get build your own box to recomended specs. A generic box with a generic tuning will never sound great. Alot of a subs bang and SQ come from the box.
