the problem with oterh speakers is i dont have room for it... i need all the space behind my seat and i will sacrifice a little behind the pass side for the sub box... thats it.. i have a standard cab and am 6'3" tall...

If you already have sub the best thing to get would be a 4" componet speaker system. You would have a crossover with 4" mids (under the dash) and separate top mounted tweeters (placed wherever you want). They sound AWESOME and can be turned up loud.
check these out...

If component speakers are too much for you, then Infinity Kappas like others suggested are really nice.

And that is not true about 4" not being loud. If you set them and the system up correctly they will keep up with bass up to moderate levels. (Moderate bass = 137dB area legal which is louder than 97% of all systems on the road.) Keep in mind if you want the 4s to keep up volume-wise you will need to cut them off higher. However this opens up a hole in the lower midbass frequencies. If you only plan on low volume listening, then you can cross them over lower to help fill that midbass hole...

It's ALL in the install.

ps - if you keep the 4s, amp them, a good amp will come with a built in crossover.

pps - try to avoid oval speakers, they have a nasty distortion in the lower midrange that rounds dont have...

Check your local Circuit City's open box cabinets, and also check ebay.

i have 4" infinity reference's, and while they dont put out much bass (what 4" will?) but they are pretty damn loud running off my pinoneer 7500 HU, with my 6.5 refernce components in the back and 12" MTX sub, they can be a bit louder on the highway with the windows open and roof off, but i have no problems with them, my system is like a PA with the roof off, you can hear it fine from hundreds of feet away.

I, too, was running the Infiniti's, then I went to Boston Acoustic's 4"'ers (because I blew up the Infiniti's), but then I met this guy I'd heard of through word of mouth (he's something of a legend in some fashion or another around here) & he turned me onto a pair of 4" "Polk Audio's."
I was a little put off by the guy at first because he seemed a bit insistent (not pushy, just insistent like the people at the amusement parks that tell you that "this" is the ride that you want to go on, ya know?), though he told me that I would understand once I listened to them.
Now I know why & I've not used anything else since.
p.s. Put off though I was initially, as much as I hate to admit it, he "was" right. So, give those a shot & tell me what you think, anybody else?

If you are using deck power to run your 4" and the HU does not have x-overs then pick up a pair of Stinger (or any brand) bass blockers. I recommend SBASS2 (0-600hz) blockers for the front SBASS1 (0-300hz) for the rear if you are running subs. You will lack alot of midbass this way however, as posted by BumpinYota (the man knows his 12volt so be confident in his advice). IMO it will be the lesser of two evils to use the bass blockers (aka poormans x-over).

I run the Alpine SPS100A (4" Type S) in the factory location and have been quite impressed with their output. I do very well in the USACi Pro Advanced 600+ class and thats with deck power. They will be replaced with the Alpine Type X 4" components in the near future.

I don't get how people can talk trash about Fosgate gear. They are still kicking ass in the lanes and their Power gear is nothing to be scoffed at. The amps are insane, power creating monsters. The T1 and T2 subs are overbuilt and the components sound stellar. Everyone talks about the good ole days... How much was that gear back then? The power to dollar ratio was pretty lean. Consumers demand lower prices. Has the price for the same materials dropped? No. Have the wages to build this gear been maintained? No. How else can any manufacturer lower the price of their gear to match the current demands of the public? They have to cut corners, use lesser quality materials and less skilled labour. This goes for EVERY manufacturer. Specialty brands have popped up all over. Thats great. The products are top notch, highest quality, have the most exacting standards and a PREMIUM price.

In a blind comparison I bet many naysayers would pick Rockford much to their chagrin.

Forget what it used to be and put it on the table with whats currently in the market at similar MSRP's and then try and convince me it's crap.

BTW I am a Kicker man (with a Fosgate amplifier and Alpine HU & speakers) and I do not work for Rockford Corporation. I just have enough common sense to step back and look at the whole industry picture to see what is actually there. Get on a hardcore car audio website and listen to what the industry experts and international competitors have to say. They definately push the gear to it limits and beyond. Some stuff holds up and some calf. Perfect example..... Scott Owens. He runs Pioneer amps and subs and set a SPL and DeathMatch (subs only) world record 176.6dbs (DBDrag Termlab) and 179.0 dbs (IDBL). Who would have thought Pioneer can actually run with the DD's, Brahma, XXX, Juggernaught's, L7's, SoloX's etc...? (Yes I know this record was broken in Sinheim shortly after)

Dayuum I am sorry. This turned into a rant. Next time I'll make a movie

I got to see Scott's monster debut at 2003 dB Drag World Finals when I went. That thing was sick and he REALLY thought outside of the box on his setup!! Also stirred up a ˟˟˟˟˟LOAD of controversy with the rules, but it passed - then whooped some azz...

No power windows...

I am trying to upgrade my speaker situation... I would love to do the 6x9's in the doors, but everywhere that I have looked at doors that have this - they all have power windows... I don't ... I am not sure if I could still do this mod - just looking at it - it doesn't look like I can... any advice?!?!?! But here is what I am planning...

1) Replace all 4 of the stock speakers and the 2 tweeters in the rear (above the window)
2) Install tweeters in the panels that run up along the winsheild
3) get an amp to run all of those

later...
1) fab a 10" sub into the back pas. side panel
2) amp that...

Then I should be ok?? does that sound like it will work well??

Cheers!!!

if your gonna put door speakres dont but 6x9's...many people agree that round speakers sound MUCH better than ovals....put 5 1\4 or 6 1\2's in the door and amp them..youll be much happier.

I HAVE FOUND THE BEST 4" SPEAKER!!!

Infinity Kappa 42.7i

50 watts RMS 150 watts MAX

damn they sound crisp!....im running 60 rms to them and they sound great and already sound much louder than my rockfords at the same volume

im also running alpine type R 6x9s in the back...im having issues with cracked cargo bay panels but soon enough i wont.

I have been thinking about the infinity's - but I haven't been able to really go listen to them... Do you have a sub in the back?? If not what's the sound like in there? Actually a better question would be, what type of music do you listen to??

ever thought about fabricating something in the doors to fit at least a pair of 6.5 coaxials?

as i said before stay away from oval speakers..youll be happier with 6 1\2s

as for my speakers im running alpine type R 6x9's in the back and the infinity 42.7's up front...all the speakers are getting 60 watts RMS from a kenwood 4ch amp.

i get a decent amount of bass from the 6x9s but nothing deep...

im adding 2 type r 10" each wit htheir own 850watt RMS amp

it sounds great now..the lows just sound lame

Sorry - I guess you misunderstood my question... I would like to put some speakers in the doors... (6x9 or 6 1/2's - I don't care) but I just don't think that I can, not having power windows - I think the crank will get in the way... I was asking if anyone has done this with manual windows... sorry for the confusion!
