looking for DVD setup for rear passengers

99 4runner, I was looking at a large flipdown setup and want to stay under $300 for everything.

I see these flpdown units where the DVD goes right into them, and have their own speakers as well. I assume the sound is horrible.

I'd like a large flipdown monitor that can play the sound off the stock head unit and speakers.

Greatly appreciate any suggestions on what might work for us

Thanks

I doubt the audio out is any better than a more expensive unit. It is likely that the built in speakers just suck.
If your head unit has a input jack then run it there and you should have just as good quality audio as the stock unit can put out.
If you do not have the input jack, well you are pretty much out of luck, maybe time for a new head, however there is one other option.

FM radio adapter, however I have yet to see one that gave good quality audio as a CD or input jack. If you live far away from a big city it should come close to it, but problem I had was when traveling on a long trip, I constantly had to change the channel on the transmitter as it would fade back and forth between my music and local FM stations. I came up with a solution. Took open the FM radio adapter, un-soldered the internal antenna and threw in trash, and soldered a length of RG-62 coax(same stuff used for car antenna,SMA,cellular, etc), and solidered the shielding to the negative wire coming out of cigarette lighter plug direct to the board, as well as the shield.
FM radio did not pick up as many stations, but my MP3 player sounded alot better and no more having to change channels on the adapter and radio.
