One step closer...

After much searching, I've finally been able to get my hands on one of the new Blau Overdrive subs. My plan is to completely conceal a form fitting sub box behind the driver's rear side panel and make a grill for where the cubby door goes.

The grille looks like a MT Classic II! (I won't be using it though )

I think this will be shallow enough. Abe is giving it the eye!

Leo - I got the Blau sub from Horizon Audio in Canton, OH. Anyone wanting to get these, you have to locate a Blaupunkt "select" dealer. They are limiting distribution on these things.

Horizon Audio will ship - talk to Bill (330.497.0070)

Its funny that some of us see the "Old" RF DMSs and call them old school, while others would consider a punch 45 more vintage, which is really dating some of us. Im only 27, but I feel pretty old right now. Thanks!
I had a bunch of SoundStream gear back before their marking director drove them into the ground. All I had was reference though. Two Ref300s and a Ref500, some SS10Rs, and a ref 5.25 set of highend. It was eventually replaced with a single Ref405 and all JL speakers. Anyone remember Iso-tubs from JL? Man were those expensive. Anyone remember when trunks had carpet on them, and boxes were ported and as big as a dog house? All I see is fiberglass now!
I wasn't into SPL, and was probably the only person in the 900+ watts class that couldn't do over a 138. It sounded great for a pair of 8w6s though.
Great to see this forum.
Wes

I used to compete myself in the late 80s early 90s. I quit due to the crap of getting extra points for dual batteries, High output alternators and the "cheaters" with 1 ohm sub loads. I did all my install and tweaking myself. In several contests that drew the line for me, I had the highest SQ scores, equal install scores, but lower spl and bonus points. What really ticked me off is in one contest, the 1st place and 3rd place trophies was decided with 4 points. They all had dual battery setups and a high output alternator that earned them 10 points to get to where they were. This was in the 250 to 500 watt class. I had the stock 100A alternator, and 1 battery. I was running a total of 480 watts with 2 carver m240 amps. My carvers were way more effecient at converting input to output than any other amp on the market at that time. I did not need an extra battery, and my alternator handled the 40 amp peak current draw of my system with ease. I saved 500 bucks by not upgrading the charging system and battery, but it cost me first place there, and several 2nd and 3rd places also.

Anyway, I still have the carvers, a PPI 150x2, 2-JL 10w1s and 2-MTX BT 10" subs in my shed. I also have Morel tweeters, 6" mid bass drivers and a set of 8" RF mid bass drivers that I want to incorperate in my 90 Runner. All stealth install is what I want. Thats what prompted me to look in here because Im ready to start designing this. Later taters!!

Points for dual batteries? WTF? Was that IASCA? It's been a while since I competed as well, but I did SQ and SQ + and I was " exotic " b/c I was running the old 10.0 and Picasso amps from Soundstream... and (1) YES.. one Stroker 18... in a 15 cubic foot box no less.... it had GREAT frequency response and killer low end... I ported it through my rear deck in my (what else did you use for SQ back then... ) Thunderbird. I was running ID horns and had the classic kickpanels... My trunk was carpet... then vinyl. Now everything is fiberglass and carbon fiber. Stealth installs were the heat then.. now it's all about the bling. <sigh> Oh well...

I remember those JL Isotubs... and the OLD SQUARE RF amps... from the Power series.... and the 200ix's and such.... wow.

I just wasn't familiar w/ the " HO " designation... I remember the old 225 and 250 HCCA's... they were some current HUNGRY monsters... I hope you're running at least a 125 amp alt or dual batteries to keep it happy... And I know that they make more power @ 14.4 than at 12V. Let me know when you need a voltage regulator... I've got a few Orion ( Wired ) MBR's laying around... they'd match your amp well.

My experience w/ high current amps is w/ Soundstream... .25 ohm stable... rated @ 25 watts... supposed to do 1000 rms @ .25 ohm w/ 14.4v. I doubt it ever did... maybe close. Then I switched to US Amps, and those were REAL current monsters... then to the (new then) D class amps from MMATTS. MONSTERS, low on the current draw, but man was that some DIRTY power. Not clean at all! I was very fond of the Xtants I used... but their biggest amp back in the day only did 1100 rms... Strokers laugh @ 1100 rms.

And FYI Hyperlite... the old IASCA and USAC rules rated amps at the manufacturers claims of power @ the lowest possible operating load. I remember when power classes were really old and they went by the manufacturers claims @ 4 ohm, or the " factory " rating... i.e. your Orion only making 25 watts, my old Soundstream only making 25 watts, blah blah... then they changed the rules and started rating " true " power. I have no idea where they are now... Is NSPL still a body? I was part of the team that was trying to dethrone Alma Gates... we beat Jay Lovelace and his Creative team... Ahh... Digital Designs and US Amps VLX 400's.... oh... and 48 batteries... and concrete in the floor, and doors, and 2" thick lexan windows with bracing... and building out a dash w/ oak... DEFINITELY not a daily driver. I miss those days... I miss part of my hearing too... ;-)

As we used to say...

Are you the same person that was so nervous that you couldn't push the buttom during the finals and had to tape it??? By all means back up the talk with action and bring your vehicle to Creative and beat Jay Lovelace! We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, as well as car titles and cash when you loose!

Not to mention, your first post isn't even on-topic?

You would think some of the "creativity" would go to looking at the date on the thread...

When the Cerwin Vega Strokers first came out and were tested and reviewed, they used that exact same quote.

Not like it matters, the thread is old, just happen to stumble across it.
