HD TV gurus help me decide on a Christmas purchase

So I'm looking at getting a new TV (our old one was stolen last year) and I think I've narrowed it down to an LG 47".

Question is, is it worth paying almost $300 more to get 4,000,000:1 contrast ratio vs. 1,000,000:1 ?

Other benefits to the more expensive TV are internet connectivity, additional USB and HDMI ports but the primary thing I want to know is how important is that contrast ratio everything else being equal (120hz, 1080p, etc.)

A quick and dirty read..
http://tv.about.com/od/hdtv/a/contrastratio.htm

Sounds like you need to view the tv's side by side to really see which one looks better in your eyes.
If it was me, though, and I had the money to drop, I'd pony up for the Internet conectivity and extra hdmi ports.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck. I just got an early birthday present which was a new Sony Bravia bx42 - 40". An amazing upgrade from the off brand 19" LCD that I had in my bedroom previously. LOVE IT!

Good read, both tv's are LG, and both contrast ratios are dynamic. Hopefully they will have both models in store, but I doubt it.

I like the idea of the internet connectivity, but considering I already watch ESPN3 and Netflix via xbox live, I don't know that it's absolutely necessary. On the other hand, Xbox live has totally screwed up the user interface for Netflix so maybe going straight through the TV would be nice.

I guess you could have a wireless mouse and keyboard and browse the web too...
