component system

What are the advantages of a component system vs a few new nice speakers?

I don't think I understand your question. Typically a component set is where the tweeters are separate from the mid range so you can decide the best placement.

Are you asking if it's better to purchase new speakers all at once, or to swap in additional sets over a period of time?

If that's the case then I'd say most people would like to do a total install all at once so you only have to disassemble your interior once and you can route the wires together and keep it all organized.

That being said, most people can't afford that so they replace one set at a time. Nothing wrong with that as along as you have a plan from the beginning and don't purchase parts that are incompatible with the next phase.

Plus you'll get really good at taking out your panels and carpet

Hope that answered your question.
