Component Installation Help

Just ordered a set of 4" components for the Runner, but I had a few quesitons regarding the installation.

First off, I know that it sucks but I'm going to use the factory dash location for the woofer (if you can call a 4" speaker that...). Where have you guys mounted the crossovers? Behind the dash somewhere? Down near the kick panel?

Secondly, I'm trying to decide where exactly to mount the tweeters. I'm thinking it will probably be at the corner of the headliner and a-pillar, but I'm open to suggestions. Is it possible to find window sails for 2nd gens with tweeter cutouts, or could I just dremel mine out?

Shoot me some ideas and pics please.

Thanks

i put my crossovers under my driver's side seat. most people put it inside the door panels in weatherproof bags

in your situation, i would put them in the door panels. im sure there are more creative solutions, but that is the most common.

why not buy some kick panels and solve your problem in one fell swoop? or make your own? There are a ton of writeups that you can find on the subject, but buying a q-logic is simple and effective. i like mine

Bob, thanks for the input, but I'm not sure I see the point in putting them in the door panels if none of the speakers are in the doors. I'm thinking now that I might find some space on either the back or side of that factory enclosure to mount them... Thoughts?

kpooch,

crap, i wasnt paying attention and saw you have a 2nd gen. i was in 3rd gen mode.

well if you can find a place for the components behind any panel, then go for it. just make sure they are secure and dont' bounce or ratthle around. thats why i put mine on a pine board underneath my passenger front seat. at best, they might slide around a little but thats all. hardly noticeable and best of all, if you need to adjust the settings, you dont have to remove a panel

If they make Q-logic kick panels for your ride, then go with that option. A 4" mid-driver in the stock location will not sound good. I experimented with a setup similar to this in an old 88 camry. Ended up making some quick kickpanels for the time being.

{quick hijack}

So... you guys have used the Q-logic panels? I've been thinking of getting 'em for my truck but couldn't decide just how much they'll help get the audio out of my calves.

{/quick hijack - thanks!}

Ooo! btw!

mark,

i have them and i think they make a big difference. the sound is directed at you and i could tell the difference right away.

some guys recommend fiberglassing the back and stuffing a little polyfill back there. i did that too, but truthfully, im not sure if that made any difference

Righ on... thanks Bob. They're now on my list.

btw... Kpooch! (on topic!) that link above shows the product for the 2nd gens. Lotso color options, start at the main Q-Logic site and drill down for more info:

Thanks for the links and info. I still don't know what to do. I like the q-forms idea, but if I was going to do that I would've gotten a larger driver. I would also like to have my tweeters mounted higher, just a personal preference.

Anybody have any pics of other places where they have installed tweeters/components/crossovers?
