Antenna

Ok with the stock radio in, the antenna would only go up if i was listening to the radio, not cd's or anything, with my new HU the antenna just goes up whenever the 4runner is turned on. I know it's jsut a matter of how I wired it, but i did it the only way i knew how, any suggestions on how to fix this?

Did you connect the antenna to the antenna wire on the new deck?
What kind of deck is it?

Okay, I've done a little bit of research on this but shelved the project indefinitely, so bear with me...

The power antenna unit is connected to an "always-on" source (i.e., receives power from the battery even though the key is in your pocket). This supplies power to the motor, which is only responsible for fully extending (all the way up, until a set stop) or fully retracting all they way into the fender.

The antenna unit is also connected to the HU. The wire is usually colored blue. When the blue line is powered, it signals the antenna to extend. When power is cut, it signals the antenna to retract.

The stock HU is smart enough to cut power to the antenna (blue line) when you are not listening to the radio. Unfortunately, aftermarket head units don't always do this.

Mine doesn't either. So I wanted to do some wiring that would allow me to override the HU. But that's the project I put on hold.
