amp on, no sound?

Any info. much appreciated - it's cold up here in VT and don't want to tear everything apart if I don't have to. Original install done about 2 1/2 years ago (Kenwood HU, EQ, AMP). About a week ago, when I started the 'runner, the HU powered up, but didn't get any sound. After a couple of days, as I was driving (HU was on) it started to work again, and now it's not working . The amps mounted under the drivers seat, and the power light for the amp is "on" when HU powers up. I checked the RCA cables and speaker wires, on all seems OK. Any ideas or recommendations on what to check next? Thanks in advance.

Did you check the speaker wires where they connect to the speakers?

If they were not soldered they can become loose and can cause a short if they wiggle off. This would cause your amp to go into "protection mode and remain on while there is no sound output.

I am only suggesting this because I have seen it happen a few times. Also, were your speakers sounding good before? If a speaker blows it can cause a short as well.

Thats my .02

Good Luck

Question Surge

Well, my fuse blew on my head unit. Everything ran but with the 0.5 amp fuse blown on the back of the head unit, the noise didn't kick. I was driving on a bumpy trail and the amp came unplugged. So, I plugged it back in for noise. But, the fuse blew because I was too lazy to turn the truck off. Check the back of your head unit for fuses.

speaker wires OK and no exposed wire to cause a short. Speakers sounded fine before sound cut out. I'll check the HU fuse...

you may need to pull the HU back out and all the connections if you haven't done that already
