I recently picked up a '97 4Runner SR5 3.4L w/ 120K on it. It has the factory CD/Cassette/Radio in it. When I bought it the radio worked, but the CD player would only pull a disc in and spit it out 2 seconds later regardless of the disc. The owner also had a 6 disc Alpine (RF) CD changer installed but it was broken, too. After pulling the changer the stereo power comes on, but there's no volume - nothing coming through the speakers. Anyone have any ideas? I didn't pull the wires from out of the back of the head unit from the changer so maybe that's what I need to do. In the end I'll probably just getting an aftermarket unit for the dash, but I was wondering if anyone had any other thoughts.

 

I've got a factory set up from my 98 I could sell you. Right now it's just collecting dust in my garage.

Other than that is sounds like it's something internal to the radio/CD player.
