96 Tacoma losing power

My 96 4cyl 2.7 tacoma is losing power in the lower rpm's (2,000--3,000 range). when it is idling it keeps surging up about 100-200 rpm's. It just started doing this, I drove it 80 miles and everything was fine. Anybody got an idea on what to check? I have done the following without any luck...added fuel injector cleaner, check the sparkplugs, efi fuse, and air cleaner all seem okay. Help!

Where are you in the world? A lot of places are now in "winter gas" which can cause some fun.

The idle surge is probably more telltale than the midrange power loss. It sounds like it may be starved for something to burn.

How long has it been since you added the injector cleaner? It can take a while for it have any effect.

When's the last time you replaced the fuel filter? Have you ever replaced the O2 sensor? Have you tried cleaning the MAF? Cleaning the throttle body?

How many miles are on the engine?

When you say "I drove it 80 miles and everything was fine", do you mean that you had trouble, then for 80 miles it was fine; or that you had driven 80 miles and then had trouble? Was that 80 miles right after filling up? Maybe you got a bad tank of gas...

Search here for the "big thread" talking about SeaFoam - that can help in general.
