does any one have pics of a trailer hitch tire carrier. im wanting to build one out of some scrap metal i have laying around, for temperary use until i have the time and funds to build a new rear bumper with tire gate.

i need some pics of how to make it swing down so i can still open the tail gate.

 

I dont have any pics right now but....have you looked at how yakama bike racks are built? Mine you have to pull a pin and it swings down. The same design might work if you beef it up a bit. It's a start anyway

....not the best, here is mine, I made it so it is fixed, cannot open hatch with it on, but looks cool, also holds a gas can, license plate mount and light. I only use it on long trips and it has worked out well for me. It slides into the hitch slot in my fabbed bumper, then has a brace on either end that ties into the fabbed bumper to prevent bounce, shaking etc.
