Rear tire carriers from other make rigs

I am still looking at putting a rear tire carrier on the back of my runner. I dont want to fork out $300+ for a custom built one and really dont want to fork out $500 for a tail gate & tire carrier. I just want to get a rear tire carrier even if off of say a Jeep,Pathfinder, or other suv. Would a tire carrier off of a Pathfinder or Wrangler work on mine? Could I make it work? Blue

I like the stock H2 tire carrier and was thinking about fabricating something like it for my 4Runner......

Me an you are on the same track Blue, this summer i am getting a genaric tire mount for a van from JC Whitney. I figgure the two exterior mounts can go on the edge of the tailgate and I can modify the third point to get bolted to the face of the tailgate, then i will drill and make a becking plate for the bolts on the inside of the gate. They cost about $50. I just don't know about things like, will it block the tailights and liscense plate, will it allow the gate to open all the way still. With 35 you may have a lot more probs than me too. If that plan fails I may just go with a reciver mount but I would love a swing away.

wrangler tire carriers mount to the tailgates and wont work with bigger tires. my buddies jeep has 31's and the tire rubs on the tailgate on the carrier, plus the bolt pattern is off but that can be changed easily enough.

pathfinders are an option, as are some s-10 blazers, isuzu rodeos (honda passports), as well as other vehicles.

i have considered this as an option, just remember, be careful where you mount the carrier on the body and reinforce the mount as well.
