If you are doing this at your place I'd love to come and lend a hand or two! Also where did you source your chevy rear leafs for $65??? Do you have a hook up? I keep coming across the pick a parts for $100 to $150!!!! If you have a source I'll pickup a set and then come and help with your build, then we can throw some chevy's on my rear!!! Let me know, sounds like you have a solid plan set there for your build.

Right............................................. .................................. check the pirate4x4.com faq, the most common cheap sas is rears up front, and chevy rears, with a square dshaft, then you spend the dough on the axles and drivetrain.

To Morphine: I put up a wtb thread on pirate4x4 and some guy offered them for 65 bucks, Didnt take them because I thought I was going to do a fully blown out crazy long travel insane rear suspension but we all have dreams right, so I thought chevies would be a little more practical for now considering a budget, but sounds like a plan, Ill gather parts and start this project on the begining of spring break, so late April, and I will definetly help with youre rears, Ill check out my local pick and pull for some too hopefully that guy still has them, you wouldnt happen to have tourches and a descent welder? If you do that would be great too becuase I dont want to go hunt down some tourches, I have a 90amp mig welder but something with a little more power will be a little more suitable for this project, but if not I could always use a helping hand definetly on this kind of a project and yes it will be at my house. Thanks for the offer.

Sorry no hook up on tools! Just a ready and willing body. Yeah if you find a set of Chevies for that please let me know as I'll take them off your hands or reimburse you. But I'll keep my schedule open and will at least make it up for one day if not more!

I have the same truck. Try to take some snapshots so that I know exactly what our trucks look like under the knife. I have plans similar to yours scheduled for sometime this summer. I'd like to perform an SAS and gain around 6" of lift front and rear, plus add lockers w/5.26's. It's the Rubicon that I want to shame. That thing with stock 31's is just sitting too low. And, at a stock 190 hp, I think that some machine shop tech can match me on the weight to hp ratio.

Make sure that you call Sonoran Steel. I got Steve's shackles the other day and found out that we wheel the same truck also. He can definitely steer you in the right direction to break your rig down and build it up again to get it rolling with the least amount of headache. The guys at Sonoran Steel have the experience, knowledge, and hookups to Get-R-Done right the first time. And, all of the guys on here agree, "Do it right the first time"-Good Luck

Hey guys I need to gain some skills on welding, do you think if I aquire the right skills for welding on a mig, will a 90amp mig be suitable for this SAS? And how can I aquire some fabrcation skills before April, without taking classes cause Im trying to save up for SAS, maybe theres a website with tips, I dont know but anything will help, I can weld its just the welds are sloppy and about 50% of the time they dont hold and end up redoing them, so any suggestions will help?

Ill get some pic in April just look for my thread when I start it, Ill have the average build up thread.

DO NOT BUY A LOCKRITE
DO NOT BUY A LOCKRITE
DO NOT BUY A LOCKRITE

I broke my third lockrite yesterday.
This is not internet heresay or repearter "I heard" posting, I broke MY third lockrite yesterday. Weld the rear and get a full Detroit for the front if you need to keep that budget.

Also, keep up with the for sale listings and try to find a whole 5.29 3rd with a locker already in it and you could save some $$. Add $100 for same extra stock birs too.

Dude a welded front really sucks a**, turning is a complete b**** with the welded front end, Im just going to run lunchbox lockers for now, and eventualy move onto a detriot in both the front and rear, or maybe a locker in the rear and a truetrac up front.

Crap I have a dilema, I'm Lucky to have the good sides of both rockcrawling and prerunnung in my area, I got offered a front a-arm kit, 13 inches of travel, adjustable coilovers, the whole shabang to set up my front, its less than $2000, and I can drop down to a size 33" in tires since thats the biggest you want to go on a long travel kit, so let me rework this table, and let me know which one I should go with because I like both going fast through the desert and I also like rockcrawling so I dont know which one to go with. I just take my old table and take any SAS stuff away and put 1900, it comes out to like 4400 so I guess Im doin the SAS because I only have 4000 but still let me know what to go with.
