Sorry for not reading all of the post. I cannot understand the way people talk from bro-cal....




And one thing you have to take into consideration...
I weld in my driveway on my truck.. i cannot do this in teh garage and its usually pretty windy where i live. Hence the flux core... I actually llike it.. The welds don't look as pretty but big deal..

a pretty weld doesn't mean a strong one..

Exactly mike, I could care less if they look great or not, All im worriad about is penetration, Thats what she said mmmkay.

Umm, So whats this anti splatter spray stuff you guys mentioned...Ive never heard of it..Can I pick it up at home depot on my way to work..?

i got mine there. It's like non-stick spray for cooking. The stuff I got, (i think it was Lincoln brand) smelled like menthol when spraying it and pancakes when it was burning.

Yea supposedly that stuff is awesome.. get yourself a wire brush and possibly a wire wheel to go on a drill or something...

I use straight co2 all the time when i weld. Save yourself the time and hassle of dealing with flux core. Regulator and a couple feet of hose is cheap. if you convert get .030 not .035. the .030 flows way better. just gotta run a slight bit faster wire speed. You can even run .023 if you dont weld over 1/4. the .023 is great for sheet metal or thinner metals as well as most stuff your prob gonna build.

also As far as the welding cart goes. I spent about 25 bucks and built an all terrain cart for my buddy who uses his welder in his dirt/rock driveway. Just weld some all-thread to the front and back and get some pneumatic tires or caster if your just going to use it on concrete which are like 5 bucks or less a piece. I only spent about 5 bucks for scrap metal to build it.

In all honesty though, on the chart in the machine it shows I can weld much larger metal then with gas and non flux...

So IDK.

Probably, because there would be more wire since the center wouldn't have flux. And poor man's cart, HA! because poor people have three vehicles or have owned three at age 18, have welders etc. etc. And I'm just being a jackass, I know or am pretty sure you meant relatively.

Well yeah, Not necessary poor mans, But the material you see only cost 20 bucks..Im probably going to have to pick up another 20 bucks worth tomorrow..

And after my lockright order goes through and after my deductible, I will be poor..Well kinda....

I would go co2 and .030 it with a good ground and your welder just try it. Its in my opinion easier to do and learn, and its really easy to see what your doing right and when your not. Also get a helmet good helmet the cheap ones work, but the auto ones are better, also get different shaded lenses if you get a flip down helmet. I use a wire wheel on a angle grinder then switch to a grinding stone and sanding pad to smooth everything out. You should be able to alot with that welder just keep the insides clean, another tip on the inside take like a thin piece of cloth about 2" long and fold it over the wire and hold it on with a clothes pin(that will keep everything clean in your lead. And you could just use WD/40 to make the spladder easier remove. I dont know what you know so I'm just trying to help.

I also picked up some thinner angle iron (not shown), to put this on as a shelf underneath..


Fit.


Yes the legs are slightly rusted, but they were pre cut, perfect size, and 1$ each.
I spent almost an hour grinding this grinding that..

Ok, Does anyone know how to weld here ? Your telling scuba to put Co2 on flux core wire ! Scuba, if you want to run mild steel (non-flux cored wire), then you need gas. Do Not use gas with flux wire it is wrong and will make it turn out no better (and exspensive). If your running mild steel, do not run just CO2, it turns out like crap. Use 75/25 just ask for it by name. Co2 is a cheap way to weld and will not give you the penetration you will be looking for, do it right or turn in your helmet.

If you are in question, find an instuctor. With the exception of Dual Shield, Co2 is not what your looking for.

Just my .20 cents

Run .030 Flux wire
or .023 ( maybe .030 ) Mild Steel w/Gas

With that machine.

Yeah i feel like for now im just sticking with the flux, other then a bit of slag its not giving me any problems...
Not to mention, I can weld heavier metal with the .035 wire then .030 and co2.

CO2 and mig welding, wtf? Anyway, just get some more .030 wire non flux cored and a bottle of 75/25. Just do it! When you run out of flux core that is.

I have a Lincoln Pro MIG 135 and I have found that 0.023 wire works best with a 75/25 mix. It will weld the crap out of some carbon steel. I make all my slider adapters with this machine.

I also have Millermatic 251. I use 0.030 wire and a 75/25 mix and it will weld your face to the floor in a single pass.
