michael1963's Roof Basket Build Thread

Well after finally getting off my butt and getting around to drilling some holes in my roof (which wasn't an easy decision for me by the way but, didn't have to many other 'cheap' choices!), my roof basket is now mounted and awaiting it's first trial run this weekend.

Just prior to removing the roof liner.

4in X 2in brackets I made up to support the roof from the inside.

Rear rack bolted down. And yes, all 4 holes have been siliconed to death.

Both racks installed and awaiting the arrival of the basket.

The finished product rear view. Mounted on an extra 'Toyota' logo from the front grill, just so that there was no doubt in anyone's mind that was following me, what was in front of them!

Front view finished product.

And in case anyone was wondering, yes those are hockey puck spacers that I used. I only wanted a 1in clearance between the roof and basket so that it wasn't higher than my lightbar and I could still fit into my garage. Won't be Canadian made if I didn't use hockey pucks eh? Same type of spacer's used for the mod to raise the back of my front seats!

I'd like to thank everyone that replied to my first post "Roof Basket Direct Mount?" and gave me their input and advice.

Thanks man. Yeah I didn't want to lose my lightbar because I like it there and, it makes it easier for my to load it when I can stand on the rear door. I'm not very tall so that was the other reason for mounting at the rear.

It actually came off a Nissan Pathfinder. A buddy of mine GAVE it to me about 10 years ago, with 5 KC lights, because his wife didn't like it on their truck. It's a CARR 'King of The Mountain' series. I had to cut out of the centre section about 3in because it was that much wider than the 4Runner.
