gearing up yourself?

ok so ive done a little looking with no luck on installing your own gears. Can it be done? I understand to do it correctly you need special tools like a dial gauge and such but is it possible? Anyone that has done it, any pics and tips? Going for a budget build here. i would only be using the rig for offroad use. Thanks!

It is, but it is time consuming and aggrivating, i would find someone in your area to do it for you.

I have done it.

It took forever, it was tedious, and it required several special tools.

ZUK, a member here, has excellent write ups on his site. I used this, and other resources found using google. THIS is ZUKs site.

This is not an easy task, and it takes quite a while to do it right. It's not something that can be done wrong even the slightest bit, or your new gears are toast.

Most find for 200 bucks, an install by a shop is good piece of mind.

Good luck.

The 1st one is long and frustrating. I spent probably 6-7 hrs on the 1st one and still could not get it right. I went back in on the computer (its 3am by now) and read some more of Zuks site and looked at gear pattern pics for about 30 mins then it was like a light bulb came on so I went out and tore it all apart again and had it finished in an hour. The next one took about 2.5 hrs start to finish and now that I'm up to number 6 or 7 its quicker especially when you start building little tools to make things quicker. After you do several with good name brand gears and then get stuck doing a Genuine gear set up you learn to appreciate good gears.

Just read and study Zuk's web site that took all the guess work out for me.
