First post here. Looking to replace my ‘86 that was totaled in a crash and I’m looking at one that has a custom skid plate bolted onto the frame. I can’t recall where the existing holes were on my old one and curious if someone can tell me from this photo if a previous owner punched new holes into the frame to mount this skid plate and what that will do to the integrity of the frame if I pull that skid plate off?
It will be my daily driver and I don’t foresee needing the skid plate and the extra weight it adds. Thanks

First of all that is a Custom cross member for the transmission !!No doubt heavier then the skid plates
That square tubing holding the skid plate is another custom bracket
From what I can see no attachments to the frame but for a few bolts .
Unless the frame is compromised in some way not visible unbolting the aluminum skid plate should cause no issues.
This is going just by what I can see in your picture
If your really into saving weight that aluminum is not all that heavy

Thanks so much for the reply! If I end up buying the truck, which I probably will, I’ll probably just see what kind of gas mileage it gets as my daily driver before I decide to start looking for ways to improve it.
