Looks great. That is some serious thick steel you used. It should hold up. I feel sorry for the SOB that rearends you. Mine held up great in a rearend and it is only 2x4x 3/16.

 

no, it doesnt flop around in the wind or anything. the main issue with cuting the bed like that is, mud and stuff can get in behind the tail light(small hole in bottom of cavity). but i plan on making a few pieces of sheet metal to weld in there.

 

That thing is sick! Your a true inspiration to all that want to fabricate their own bumper, excellent job!

Thanks for sharing! I have been thinking about how I can adapt my rear bumper to extend forward to the wheel wells like yours. That looks SWEET!!! Nice work!
And thank you for the ideas on how to do it. Then the rear will match the front better.

I'm also thinking about adding D-Ring mounts to both ends. But the front ones will get a tow-bar that matches up with them, just in-case I want/need to flat tow at some point.

Nice bumper. Looks great. Pretty damn close to how I'd like to do my rear, what with the trimming of the bedsides etc.

What'd you use to trim them and what did you put on 'em afterwards (primer etc.)?

Dude, that is the first bumper I've seen that would get me to cut my truck up, that is freaking sweet. I'll probably follow suit in the next few months.

And when did you get different tires?

 

i used a grinder with a cutoff wheel. and i just used some tractor enamel (really tough paint).

no, i didn't see that thread. but they are similar in design.

i actually designed it off of my front bumper, and off of 4runner style bumpers.
i like the way 4runner bumpers come around the side and into the wheel well. plus i had some body damage that needed cut off there anyhow.

search custom front bumper and check it out, if you haven't already.

 

trust me i have seen it. that is what i am gonna base my front bumper off of once i get the money and time. it sure sucks being a poor college kid.

do you have a guess what the cost of materials was for the front and rear bumpers?

 

yea,

the metal alone for the front was around $250 give or take.

the rear metal was around $225.

thats just for metal! no bolts, no paint, no grinding discs, etc.

a rough guestimate on what i spent total for a complete bumper front and rear would be about $650
