custom front bumper Q.

Regarding the two frame parts that stick out front when you remove the lower valance from the front bumper. They have a rounded end cap of sorts that fit in behind the valance to keep it from pushing in. When you guys are building these custom bumpers, after you remove the rounded end cap, are you cutting the end of the remaining frame part off to your required length then welding a new flat end cap on (so it doesn't stick out so far)? Is it ok to do this?

I know I don't have to cut anything off, just wondering if anyone has and if it hurts it structurally to do so.
