I know there are several members with custom Flatbeds. (such as toyospero, very nice btw) I thought it would be interesting to see some pics.
My flatbed wasn't really designs for off road. So Im sure alot of guys did things differently.

Those were my brothers I think they say ultra motor sports on the side. But I think they might call them renegade something.

 

When you had the wooden flatbed did you have a plywood deck or was it metal?

Its still the same flat bed(2x12 spruce boards) I just caped the ends with aluminum. And herculinered the bed.
That is a very nice tube bed. It may not be a flat bed but close enough for me.

 

 

I wish I would have went ahead and jet spend the extra $$ to make my whole bed out of aluminum. But wood works fine.
Did you build that bed yourself TFE? Looks hefty. There are several things I need to finish up like Fu win welding up the side racks and building a tailgate would be handy. I'm working on the tow package right now.

 

yea your guy's beds are more geared toward utility, which was in a lot of my early design plans but as the truck and my needs evolved i ended up doing what i did. Just breaking the rules and ignoring all the web wheelers genius advice and creating something from scratch that was built and designed purely off my own experience and desires.

utility no more, sure, ive still hauled a few tools, wood and even a night stand hehe with it but off-road performance and durability became the priority for me. Going for the most efficient travel while retaining some storage capacity, a FULL size spare, a STOCK fuel tank and still running leafs.

I've got buddies with full link rears tubed out and its awesome but they are purely trail rigs, where as I still drive this thing 200+ miles a week on the freeway.. cops sure hate me tho hopefully mothball it as a daily soon as i get my 85 extra cab running

 

I bet THAT cost a fortune to build!! Very nice!!!

Yeah its pretty much all 1/4 steel with a 12ga deck. Little over built. 55" by 7'6"

 

No I actually have VERY little I to the bed. The only aluminum I bought was a sheet of diamond plate which I'm not sure how much it cost, some one owed be a bit of money so we traded. And the square tubeing for the side racks. I would guess maybe 300$ 400$ at the most. I got the bed liner on sale like 60$. Well the lights were a little spendy but not bad. All of the other aluminum was scrap laying around.


If I dint used my truck for hauling I would have build a tube bed.

 

I would like to build either a cover for the bed or maybe a lumber rack I could stretch a canvas tarp over.

 

you mean something like this? pop up camper material works great on and off in 5 minutes, 100water tight

I'm thinking of just painting a peace of plywood black and makeing some aluminum hinges. And using it like a tonnuea ( I know it's spelled wrong) Rain and stuff could still get in through the gaps on the side racks.
