converting a 83 minitruck into trailblazer

I was looking at Hurleys trailblazer he had for sale yesterday. As much as I wanted it I had to pass on it.

However it got me thinking. Has anyone here attempted something similar? I love the 1st gen 4runners but I also love the the front clips on the 1st gen minitrucks.

I am curious if anyone has fabbed one of these up?

All they basically are is a "walk-through" cab with a top installed on the bed, the cab/bed gap gets sealed, and seats are fitted to the back. Seems pretty simple to make one yourself. Search walk through cabs and you'll find many examples as its relatively common for people with single cabs in the wheeling crowd.

Toyota did not make Trekkers from the Factory. They delivered a cab and chassis to Winnebago, which did the conversion.

Thank you. I knew everything has a name but I didn't know what it was.

Trekker was by Winnebago and the trailblazer was by Griffith.

I posted this on my tablet and I don't think there is a search feature or I couldn't find it.I will see what I find.

In my mind it seems relatively simple especially for a good body guy. I was hoping t find some folks doing it.

My idea hopefully would allow the camper top to be removable like a 1st gen.

I have been think about the channel across the back topside of cab and down the (pillar?) So you can remove it and it seals up.

the big differances between the trekker and the trailblazer , is winnabego built a complete back 1/2 for the trekker , when griffith did there version , they used the stock box . both tops are removable , but the big differance is the foot space and the head room . The floor height on the stock bed is ~ 3" higher then the floor of the cab. This is why the roof/canopy of the trailblazer is slightly raised over the cab height

I believe the wolverine was also another model similar to the trekker and the trailblazer. IIRC the wolverine had a very high raised back portion. I think the hardest part about making it yourself is the cap part and making it seal with the cab. Otherwise I dont see it being overly difficult for a good body guy.

Ahh, I think you're talking about a breaker-breaker... The Wolverine was a 4WD conversion done on pre-1979 Toyota Pickups and the Wolverine II was a lifted/off-road styled 2WD... I don't think they ever did a pre-4runner conversion, but I may be wrong.

Are these what you're talking about?

Ah yes you are correct. I had the breaker-breaker and wolverine mixed up. Thats an awesome picture you found though. Makes me want to attempt to build one now. No money or skills to build it though haha.

EDIT: While searching around I also dug this one up. Appears to be a first gen 4runner with a custom top. After looking at it more closely I think this one might be a pickup conversion. The roofline and pillar is slightly different than the 4runner.

I still cant figure out how they did this without breaking something because of body flex.
