Anyone build a safari style roof rack?

I am looking to build a safari style roof rack for my 90 4Runner. I was wondering if anyone has built one and might have pictures of their build. Also how did you mount it to the roof.

Heres a rack i made for mine . 1.0" dia 1/16 wall steel tubing. Light and strong.
I made a small frame that bolts onto the roof then the rack bolts to the frame. I took my headliner out and seen that there are roof braces that run across . I drilled through the roof braces and bolted to the frame.

no pics, but a co-worker of mine built a sweet flat roof rack for his 60-series Land Cruiser that was stupid simple to make and cost was pretty much just the mounting brackets.

He used a metal futon frame found in the gutter. Basically just used the top/bottom halves and spliced with tubes sleeved inside. Mounted it with brackets made for roof racks, which I think was the only expense.

Might be a possible option for you if you don't want to buy a bender. Futon frames on CL are dirt cheap or free

Thanks reallifedog.
Heres a few more pic's. Not very good.
The base frame is 1x2. That stays bolted to the truck. My plan was to make a couple of different style racks . One for camping and another for holding a canoe .
