I really like what you have done so far.

When I was planning on putting sliders and a fron bumper on the rig I really wanted to do a wheel arch bar, But I hadnt really seen any. If I was still planning on doing that, I would definately model it after yours, they look great!

Ok, Im going to go for it, Ive got to scratch up some money for a 1.5" die and some more DOM.
The one thing I get a kick out of in these exo debates is how some people think that it is all or nothing. That some how by putting a 90 or 95% cage is less safe than stock. I may not be able to tumble of a cliff in moab, but I will be able to flop it in the muddy trails of Illinois.
So I will resurect this thread at a later date when the money gods are more friendly. Until then enjoy the fruits of some of my research....

it is not less safe than stock you are right..but for those that wheel along ridgelines, boulders, etc...it does not do you any good to construct a cage that could potentially crumble under the impact. It happens quite often and those that have properly designed cages end up with little to no injuries bearing they have 3 pt. harness...or the like and they're vehicles are often still in good shape.

I wish my cage could be that easy and simple. Try and find one on a 2nd gen runner, that still open there rear doors. (except foir the one previously on this thread)

Thats one bada$$ rig I'd like some pics and info on how he got the tube between the doors and still got them to open. I d like to see the bend.
Also has he ever flopped it and how did it do. What was the cage made out of.
Does he have any suggestions or words of wisdom (being one of the few to cage a 2nd gen runner while using all four doors)

search over on pirate some more. i think it was one of the tin benders that did an exo on a grand cherokee and if i remember correctly they found a way to secure it to the roof with some very elaborate gussets and bracketry and eliminated the internal portion. it was also absolutely the cleanest exo cage i have seen.

What they did was weld the cage to the roof. From what they said it worked out good. I think that's the route I plain to take with my exo.

 

that isn't the one i was talking about. however that one is nice. the one i am talking about is on a grand cherokee. that cage in those pictures had to be redone if remember correctly because the hood couldn't open.

 

ok I ordered the steel (lots of 1.5'' .120wall DOM) If the weather clears up by next weekend Ill be doing the exo. Over the last year Ive been looking around and am very confident that it can be done, and beat hard. I found one guy with a 3rd gen who exoed it with hrew and had no support between the doors and he has rolled it in the rocks with no scratches. but I may still make a support, maybe removeable we'll see.

I thinkit would be kinda cool (and fucntional) to have a brace at the rear.

I know opening the tailgate is necessary, so what about hinging(Pink) at the bottom and maybe having four heavy duty latches (blue) at the top and sides?



Just a thought. Seems like it would help keep the cage from buckling, at least at the back.

 

The top looks stout. Let's say you slow roll facing down a hill so that your weight transfers to the front. What will prevent the A pillars from pushing the top backwards?

 

btw can you get up that wall in the quary? ive tried it a couple of times with my wheeny 31's and i get about 1' up it then all forward momentem stops. (even with my locker in the rear) then i get to slam back down on my hitch.
