Steve, you did an awesome job with this! This IS the cleanest SAS I have ever seen. Maybe one of these days I will get to see it in action? That would be awesome!

When we talked it sounded like you needed some serious relaxation time. Do you have pics from your milk room visit?

I don't know if Cheese or Hunt will be next. It will be hard to say. Neither have really started seriously gathering parts, so who knows.

If he was debating posting butt pictures, the milk room pictures will get him banned for shizl. It was educational to say the least. If cheese or Jim do not pipe up on the swap- I have dibs on Steve next for the new suspension on mine!! I will get some "rubber" hammers to throw.

1979 and earlier are passenger side drop and narrow track.

1980 - 1982 are narrow track axles, same width as the 1979 and earlier but the drop is driver side. These are desirable for a Dana 44 swap for a Jeep YJ.

1983 – 1984 is a mystery, they are drivers side drop and wide track, BUT something is different than the 85-91.

1985-1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, most desireable axle for a swap. Will have slugs and not manual hubs, smaller carrier and 3.31 or 2.72 gears. A new carrier or locker will be needed to go over 3.70 gears.

Well if that's not a wake up call for eveyone I don't know what is. Like you said that is just the parts list, not all the custom stuff. WOW . I don't think this swap will become common place in the Toyota world for awhile to come, it's crazy to think that somday it will be though, like the 86-95 SAS has.

Cool, thanks Schaefer. I believe we need to stay away from the Vacuum disconnect axles, correct? I'm working on collecting parts...

Yes, and they are easy to spot. All kinds of tubes, etc. coming off of them.

I did find an 86 Waggy here in Phx at a u-pull-it non-vaccume, but I took all the good stuff off of it for spares.

Spindles, Knuckles and axles.

You'll find one. There are more pre-pulled ones in Phoenix but they all want 300-350. Some even want 450.

My money is on Hunt. Of the three of us, he "needs" it more. His will also likely be "easier" since the rear is already higher. Either spring over or coilovers.

We were probed for cameras, guns and other naughty things on Friday night, no pics.

My advice, if you are going to do this, do it the way you want. People get it in their head that things are inherently more spendy, but they end up being close.

I am from Wisconsin, so people call me Cheese. I have a stockish 2000 4Runner that looks like a 95.

The webcam was not saving, but I got some pics and Mike did as well.

I'm going to be doing a Coil-over. I really want to maintain the soft ride and flexy suspension.

Plus, my bumper slides onto the ends of the frame rails, so spring mounts on the front means I would have to re-design the bumper mount.

Also, coil-overs give you that bling-bling.

What da think? Yellow coilovers???

If I ever go SAS, I'm going to use coilovers also. It's going to be 3-4 years I've determined, before I'm going to be doing it, once I'm debt free.

Chris

P.S. I won't be doing it for the bling, bling, but for the flex.

Might be a stupid question but what is stopping us form using the SAWs that we already have(to keep the lift minimal) and just hooking them up with a solid axel and some links, and possibley changing the coils to a higher rate(for the added weight of a solid axel)? Someone shoot me down and educate me in the same breath.
