I needed to pick up a couple of new tires after my roll over (beadlock ring cut into the sidewall). I found some that were worn more than I wanted, but the price was right so I picked them up. Decided to try out my new gadget.

I took out the wear bars and then decided to keep going. I divided up the middle lugs to help the SX carcase form a little better.

That's actually the inner ring that you see there. It's always been black. But since you mentioned it, I did happen to have the rings painted since they were off. They were rusted up a bit. I had to take 4 of the 5 apart for various reasons, so I just decided to take them all apart and get them painted up all purdy. Cause my truck is soooooo good looking, it needed some new shine.

Man-o-man, if I don't have to take those apart and put them back together again anytime soon, I'll be happy. I was so close to just getting some 38's and mounting them so I won't have to do it again, but I didn't. Oh well.

You can come over anytime and bring your tires. I'll just sit there with a beer and watch you go to work.

 

Ah I see. With these old 'beater trucks' as Steve calls them...you have to take advantage of whatever bling you can get out of them! I've still got some shiny paint and parts on it still.

Yeah I am going to be pulling apart my locks before the weekend too.

What kind of groover did you buy?

 

Ideal hot knife I picked up from AZRaceMart. I used the #6 blade. It's really not that hard to use, just time consuming. I guess it depends on how much rubber you want to take out. Keys are to make sure you let the knife heat up nice and hot (atleast 15 minutes) and if the tires are hot (been in the sun) it helps.
