Cover rust permanently

Smile Cover rust permanently
My bethroom sink has rust around the metal near the downspout.What can I put there after I take the rust off to keep it from coming back permanently? Or at least semi-permanently?

how about steel wool the rust off and shoot it with some clear coat in a can

Get some Naval Jelly to eat off the rust and then paint over the bare metal. Home Depot must have porcelin sink paint that will work.
