VA4ROC.COM - Pull the trigger?
What say you VA4ROC?
I'm thinking about buying a few other domains anyway, should we grab VA4ROC.com/org and at least have it ready for a host, either the current suggestion on the main board or our own independent deal?

That's already a majority so I'll go ahead and call it; we host independent.
For the record I've had a decent discussion with "ducky" and we can still be VA.4ROC.org while simulatneously being VA4roc.com, and then we can test out any such subdomain arrangements. Check this thread on the main 4roc board.
Cool well lets do it, I've been looking at getting few other domains for myself, and so far the best deal from a company that I presently work with is this one, http://www-hosting.net/ They have a good control panel interface, decent uptime, good mail program, Frontpage extensions, and the domain reg is cheaper than I have seen anywhere else. I host my ebay pictures in a little folder off a site I webmaster with them.

Dan,
Maybe I could enlist your assistance in developing my own personally website. I've always wanted something to show my photography and of course the 4Runner too. I've been reading some books, but all that HTML is giving me a headache.
Are there any books that you would recommend I buy to help me along? Thanks.

Best thing is to grab a program with a WYSIWYG editor (What you see is what you Get) start building, then when you have an idea how things have to come together for internet, switch to HTML view and the code starts to make sense. Then you can manually edit a few tags, and see what difference it makes.
The benefit is that you can get some websites up without the learning curve, and get the code in a translation that you set up yourself.
I don't do straight HTML since it takes a lot of time compared to Programs, but when the programs just won't do what you want, you can get in the code and force it.
Frontpage is a good start (what I use) but Adobe GoLive, Dreramweaver and a bunch of others are less limited technically. If yuou are serous about long term ability to do the really cool stuff, start with anything but FP, though FP is good to start too.
PS, don't start with one of the FREE sites "easy" html Builder jobbies, they make crappy sites, and there's no good code to see.

Urgent, let's move!
Hey all, we gotta get off the test site. They just forced some ads on and it screwed up the code. I check the script and they are reading our content so they can drop specific ads. Am taking the site offline.

If we had to pick now I'd go with http://www-hosting.net/ . But I'd like to take the chance to revamp some stuff on the web, remove some of the frontpage extensions, add some DHTML. How about we make a decision by Friday the 5th?

Progress report:
Have been trying to get previous content straight into a new Frontpage minimized site. Have a great DHTML navigation running, but have to manually code it to open in a frames site (another improvement). Lost the background but will try to come up with a way to get it back later.

It's a dynamic navigation menu that automatically expands sub menus when you float the cursor over it. Looks very cool, made it match the night vision color scheme, but it won't work inside frontpage, though I think it will publish correctly through FP.
Am generally trying to get off FP, and since the site is offline now is the time to revamp it, but also don't want to take too long. Need to rebuild my laptop, and would rather do that first, etc. Blah, yadda.
Anyway, am slowly working on it, I may just buy my domains and get started with that. I would prefer to get out of town with heather this weekend, but maybe next weekend we can put something together?

Actually Ian, if you want to pick up a few things on how to make websites, now would be the time. Am working with all the good stuff at the moment, trying to get as much content out of the previous site while extracting the frontpage code, then FTP, then dealing with the host directly...
