Cool New Corona

Hello Toyota family, new to the Corona life! NEED SOME GUIDANCE! Bought a 69 Corona with a 1900 engine been sitting in a garage for 30 yrs, and only 34k original miles, it stared when got it, just an accelerated idle. changed oil and coolant and now doesn’t start up right away. Used starting fluid and started smoking white smoke and oil coming out of the tail pipe. Valve cover gasket leaking. Any suggestions? I am not a mechanic, just do the basic.

Hi, Congrats on the Corona barn find! I don’t have any specific knowledge about those, but will say that if it hasn’t run in 30 years, it would be permissible for it to smoke a bit for a while after startup as the rings reseat. I would do a diagnostic evaluation on it by looking at the plugs, points, cap, rotor, compression test, oil color, smell, content, cooling system and fuel system. It may have pumped some junk/old bad fuel through the fuel line and now some is in the carb. Take a look/smell at the fuel before deciding to run it or drain it out. Often, old fuel pumps don’t live long after a startup like that. If there is a fuel filter, replace that too. That should keep you busy for a while. With that low mileage, one would expect mechanicals to be good internally, but sitting that long isn’t good for fuel systems and cooling systems.

Man that’s sweeeeeet!!!!!

There is a huge cult following for these just like the older JDM Z’s etc.

There are a bunch of corona forums and I’m sure you could throw a thread on one of them and get some info on what you need, as far as the value? I really don’t know. I guess it would be kinda like our trucks, blue book they aren’t worth squat but to the right crowd they are getting to be gold and very pricey depending on condition.

Whats your plans with it??

I want to keep it and get it running. Hard to find parts, so I am glad to join this Toyota family and find help. Never been in a forum either.

While we have lots of knowledge here for mechanical stuff I myself have never messed with one and I don’t see many posts about these. Please stay on here and post your progress cause I love it, BUT you may also join a corona specific forum, I pulled up quite a few, this may give you way more options for parts and advice on such parts……

You may also shoot a message to a moderator to move this to an actual spot instead of the test section, I don’t see a corona spot but maybe it can be placed in the 2wd or non 4WD rigs??
