The winch saver (and thimble info)

I got the safety thimble and really like how it works. Keeps things tucked away.
Seems like any hook/ shackle that fits in the eye of the thimble would work, but the thimble is pretty thick. For example, the hook that came with the Warn 8000 winch did not work with the thimble... you would need something bigger.

I am getting that thimble I posted that is on the blue line above, and do away with my red (use to be yellow) snap hook.
I am not sure how to splice line, and I read the info on how to do it, but I have never ever worked with rope before trying to splice.
If I can not figure it out, I will just order a new 5/16th line with the thimble on it.

I like the thimble. When you get it I'll have to see it. Don't have my bumper yet so it's kinda mute at the moment.

I have some instructions too, but when it comes to working with rope, I suck.
I will goof it up to the point I would want to throw the rope away.
Some things I can not do.
To this day I can not install a diecut sticker either.
I goof them up everytime.
I have had all my stickers installed by a pro.

TC, I have been looking at this.
http://winchline.com/wl_wst.htm
I like how you can snug it up to the farilead and not have line hanging out like I do now that gets exposed.
But...Can you still use the yellow safety hook with this, or do you just use the shackle as seen in the picture?
I might be looking into new rope, as mine has been exposed to the elements since Feb. of '02.
I think I have 5/16" now, may not need to use the heavier duty 3/8".

When I upgrade I will be going to that setup...... I really like the lower weight Idea as mine will be a basket winch setup..

I got the thimble yesterday, very high quality.
Instead of adding it to my current line though, I am ordering a brand new line today.
5/16th in blue (it only comes in blue) unless you get the 3/8" line which is available in 6 colors.
The line I am getting comes with the safety thimble on it.
I will either sell the old line, or Winchline can make my old one into 2x50' or 1x100' extension lines.
Ric, you better order one, your rig is calling for one
Oh, I found out there is no need to use the yellow clasp/hook any longer.
Mine has seized up a few times too, that was my fault for not keeping it lubed, and being exposed to the elements.
When my front bumper was put on, we had to grease the hook quite a bit and use a BFH on it to loosen it up.
No need for the hook with this safety thimble setup, just use a D ring shackle for attaching to a tree saver or someones D ring shackle in their hitch receiver like many of us run.
