Call your local army surplus store and see if they can get you some pierced steel planks

they are long and would need to be cut down to size to be transportable

Rovers North of Vermont is my main supplier for my '76 land Rover rebuild. There are 3 types of traction devices on this page:

Crolison, i was just about to bring up that point as well. In WWII (and im sure in later wars), when the US was island hopping, the seabees did not have enough time or money to create a huge concrete landing strip everwhere they went. So they came up with Marsden Matting that when peiced together they created a huge landing strip.

It was much more cost efficient and when they were done with a particular island they could just go and pick it all back up and ship it to wherever it may be needed next.

I don't think those steel mats would hold up with just the ends supported.

Marsden Matting still required grading, etc - just not paving and time to dry.

you would probably have to stack something underneath it to help support it, but im sure they can bend and flex a little bit for jsut quick crosses.

This is true and i didnt mention that part, but it was still much more cost-efficient and allowed us to get landing strips set up much easier and quicker.

They may work if you were to cut the sharp ends where they connect off.
