Welding the front diff?

I love my Aussie. The only time it gets hard to turn is if you have your truck in a awkward position. But like any other locker you CAN tell its up there when in 4 wheel drive... but you get use to it.

Hey guys im jumping in LATE here, but i was reading this whole thing and no one talks about sand.
I ONLY 4WHEEL IN SAND and i dont want to buy a locker, so i was wondering, would it be okay to drive with a welded front in sand, since it has alot of slip?? cause I have an open diff and so when i hit some really soft sand , my tires dig then itll stop turning cause too much pressure on the open diff tire..
what do you guys think

I have a locker in the front of my ifs 4r. It doesn't turn when in 4wd-- well,it kind of turns. You have to make like a 12 point turn to turn around on the trail. The nice thing about it is that if you are going over rocks, the truck won't let you turn anyways, so you had better be ok with a straight line, or broken thumbs when you try to manhandle the steering wheel and the engine stalls.
Also, about a front locker in an IFS-- you are not supposed to back up and turn on concrete ever when the front is locked. If you do, you will break a bunch of really expensive parts because your wheels are like this / \ and put enormous stress on the relay rod and idler arm.
Also, my other 4runner has a full spool in the rear and limited in the front. Don't seem to have any driving problems with the spool...can't figure out what everyone is talking about, unless they are talking about the tires barking/bucking and truck moving sideways a couple feet during a turn. Other than that its fine.

hey guys im new here and ive been doing some research on lockers because im wanting to put lockers on my new rig...seems like the aussie pretty popular among toyotas...i did some reading on it and its an "automatic locker"...no air, no electric, and no manual cables...how does this work?

old thread, but i plan on welding up my front when i get my manual hubs.... no one ever mentioned with manual hubs your street driveability will not change at all. and with add you can unlock one side to turn if need be.. i have had front lock rights before and they will never unlock when you want them to. they are pointless in the front.

I have a front lock right and still hard to steer if you want to go cheap throw a spool up there same as welded and a hell of alot stronger then a lockright. In the new truck I'm building it will be spooled front and rear and probably full hydro steering or at least hydro assist. And my truck now defiantly needs hydro assist with a lockright when it's locked it's locked end of story you'll be reefing on it to steer.

What are we goinu do now snarf. Cant believe I even read through this snarf.
Just weld everything together, suspension, steering, wheel bearings, weld the tires to the rims so you dont lose air, then nothing can go wrong snarf.
