v6 gear selection

OK im new to toyotas and gearing. I am putting a 5.3 chevrolet in my 93 v6 4runner. It has stock 4.88 gears which are way too low. I need something in the 3.73 range. Can this be done with out changing the axles?

You need a new rear 3rd member. The stock 4.88's come in a "special" 3rd member and you cant swap other gears. I had the same dilemma as you and I just bought a new rear 3rd. You'll definetly need a V6 3rd to handle the power of the V8, a 4cyl 3rd will swap in, but it's too weak for the V8 power. Also, go to pirate4x4 and look at the classifieds...there's always tons of 3rds for sale.

You'll need a Toyota 8" V6 3rd. Lowest gears made I believe are 3.90's, but dont quote me on that.
