Yea, Dick's setup is very cool! In fact, I arranged a meeting after AZROCKS 2005 in which myself, my friend Rod (the owner of TVP), Dick Foster, and Chris (Hytenor) got together for breakfast and talked about the camera systems, and looked at Dicks and Chris' trucks.

 

LOL! No HBO, sorry. But I guess you could consider this your own little version of "Discovery" channel!

Question for you; can you get good spotting with it? I mean to say can you accurately inch your way over an obstacle and be confident your axle, etc will clear it from the camera view?

I have only been able to get it in the rocks once since installing it, and that was for the photos in the article. And in that case, I was able to use them to very good effect - but didn't go very far. I want to get the truck on a longer stretch of trail (a rock garden scenario) and practice with it a little bit more to get a better feel for it. For the photo shoot, I was alone (no spotter) and it was really cool to be able to see where I was having traction issues without getting out of the truck. I will report more when I get a chance to try it out more.

I can't wait to see those cameras in person. I install surveillance equipment at work, so this would be extra cool to see for me. One question: Do they have the capability to pick up sound? I think it would be really cool to hear engine/transmission sounds depending on the terrain, etc.

 

that looks like a great system, its exciting too that they will offer an in dash kit. I wonder what features the in dash receiver will have. Just wondering, is your fuse box cover upside down? In my 4runner the handle is at the bottom, and you cannot see inside the fusebox from the handle.

I have no info on the in-dash at this time. Good eye on the fuse cover (he is referring to the one inside the cab). It was indeed upside down when that pic was snapped.

 

This is one of my non-done-yet additions to my 4Puter hehehe.

I took the idea of the new Discovery 3, that has a wireless cam than can be left near an obstacle to seeing yourself hehe.

I have one of those and a reciever that I carry in the bag with the cameras I mentioned above. It has come in handy not so much for self spotting like the wired cameras, but more for shooting video from the perspective of someone laying on the trail or for watching the trail for newcomers while in camp.

Again, not as slick as some of the professional kits, but still useful
