troubleshooting my (non)elocker...

hello to all, i gotta say, i can't stop reading yotatech these days. but i have a question for you now. (yes i have been searching yotatech and found great threads for de-bugging elocker problems, thanks everyone cuz i'll be using this info for sure)
background: i was troubleshooting my apparently non-functional factory elocker (dash locker indicator remains flashing)
on a 5spd and wanted to start with a simple test to see if the rear locks. before fiddling with the rr diff lock button i wanted to establish baseline behaviors. so i jacked up one rear wheel, left it in 2H neutral, got out and spun the jacked wheel. as expected the wheel spun freely (open differential). then i shifted into 4H neutral (without engaging the locker) and tried to spin the elevated wheel by hand... no go - it was "locked". hmmm. (also 4Lo neutral = wheel dosen't spin. back to 2H neutral, wheel spins).
this was not what i expected. i thought that because the rear diff was still open in 4H or 4Lo during this test (i.e. i didn't try engaging the locker yet) the wheel with zero traction would just spin.
is the inability to spin the elevated rear wheel by hand when in 4wd having NOT engaged rr diff lock the behavior you would expect?

You would be better to try lifting the entire rear end in the air and spin one tire. The other side should turn opposite of the direction you are turning. Once engaged both tires should turn the same direction.
Your description doesn't make sense. It could be that your drive shaft was in gear which prevented your tire from turning.
Lift the entire rear off the ground and let us know.

When you only jack one of the rear wheels, and then put it in 4WD the rear carrier is then locked through the transfer case, with the front. Because the carrier can’t spin, and the rear wheel on the ground can’t spin, you can’t manually spin the one elevated wheel. Do as sgirt mentioned, and lift the whole rear axle.

nice. thanks guys. sorry for the lack of clarity in my description (haha, story of my life) i've been too busy lately to continue the quest for a functional locker. makes sense that rear carrier is coupled to the front via transfer case in 4wd (blush). i'll jack'em and give it a go.
