Tire comparing

So Im looking for 33x12.50x15s. Tire Rack has Dunlop Muds for 122ea+shipping and Kumhos for 127ea+shipping, My friend can get me BFG Mud TAs for 160 a pop or I can get All-Terrains for 116ea, so Im trying to get good tires without the hellacious cost included, Ive owned BFG Mud TAs and they were awesome but are All-Terrains good also?

Depends on what you're using them for. Are you 4-wheeling every weekend? Is this on a daily driver?

For a daily driver, I would recommend the BFG All-Terrains. They're a good all around tire for the price. I ran 265/75/16s on my 4Runner for several years and got nearly 50K miles out of them. The only real problem I had with them was a torn sidewall...twice. But, I was also aired down to 12 psi. If I had been at recommended pressure, I don't think I would have had a problem.

I've had BFGs AT on mine for 5 years. On my last set I got 75k miles out of them. I'm on my 2nd set now. Great tire on road, quiet and great in the snow. I've had both sets siped which they claim makes them last longer. The sipping is great in the snow. They work well offroad here in Colorado, not much mud. I had MTs on a jeep years ago, deffinitly more noise, also a great tire. I've had great luck with the "King of the Baja" BFG. They are good tires, they cost more but I think you get what you pay for. Discount tire will usualy match prices, even internet prices. They will also do M&B. Most local shops don't take well to mounting mail-order tires, FYI.

I just bought a set of 33 x 10.50 BFG muds today from 4WP. I've had them before (grand cherokee)... good tire, I wanted something different than what everyone has on their rig but I was limited with 10.50's. So I guess I'll be running BFG's for a while...

I searched around and they have the lowest prices on BFG's that I found... and on top of that they are giving $60 off all sets until the end of feb.

Im not a full on mud bogger per-say, I like to go mudding but I think its funner/cooler to go Offroading/4Wheeling cause any joe blow redneck can take his chevy through a mud pit but it takes skill and the right vehicle to actually go Offroading which brings me to this, will the all terrain do any good in mud? I like to go mudding between trips some time and My old BFG Muds did incredably well, will the all terrains do very well?

Best all around tire IMO is the BFG A/Ts.

I will be replacing my MTR's with them when they wear out.

I think Im gunna go with the All Terrains, after what everyones said and reading a lot of reviews they seem to be great, I just hate them because every single SUV in america has them. Ive heard mixed stories so I want actual experience, do they do any good in mud? Ive heard yes and no, Im not talkin mud up to the hood just like 6'' deep or so.

A/T tires will just do so-so in the mud but are better than a true mud tire on a truck that sees more pavement.

I personally think BFG A/Ts are overated and quite pricey for a tire that has mediocre road manners and I'd put a set of Nittos up against a set of BFGs on daily driver duties anyday especially in the wet. Off road the BFGs would get the slight nod due to their rep and durability but my Nittos are holding up quite well off road too and I spent $200 less than what the BFGs would have cost.
I think the BFGs will wear a tad better but I've noticed after a couple of years the BFGs rubber becomes quite hard and further reduces dry grip. I'll never drive another truck with BFGs on it unless it was devoted weekend truck.

Reading your other post about BJ spacers - you should REALLY consider 33x10.50 instead. They fit our trucks AWESOME and work just as well as the 12.50. Check this article out, it makes a lot of sense:
http://www.expeditionswest.com/resea...tion_rev1.html

The ONLY downside to 33x10.50 is the limited tire selection:
BFG A/T
BFG M/T
BFG Baja
Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT (what I use)
Various Super Swampers

If you're thinking about new rims too, there are a few more choices in the metric version - 255/85-16, most notably the TRXUS M/T

i've had a couple sets and will probably be going back to them, but in the georgia mud/clay, they were terrible, but great in the snow, great on the road, sand, and get great mileage. any mud and they will load up, and turn into a slick, they don't unload at all. they are a great tire though, i don't know of a perfect tire, i bought the cooper st-c and like them better than the bfg(hands down better in mud) but won't get near the mileage. and they aren't as good on the packed snow, but do real well in the deeper snow.
