Steering problems - need help!
Steering solutions
I switched to the AllPro Hysteer arms to solve a problem with my tie rod hitting the frame and breaking steering arm bolts.
With the hysteer however, the tie tod on the other side was hitting up on the pitman. So, I cut the pitman arm down by 1.5" which cleared the tie rod. I moved the front end 3" forward, the hysteer for designed for a stock location to 1.5" forward.
Now the clearance problem is resolved, but I've lost some of my steering as a result of the shorter pitman arm. I am far from hitting my bumpt stops. Any other ideas about how to deal with this problem?

I will take some tomorrow. I'm thinking about welding the holes for the tie rod full, then having a friend of mine who has the tools, drill out the new tapered hole and move the tie rod closer to the knuckle, then I could use a longer (stock pitman arm). I'd have to do this on both sides of course with the holes being exactly the same distance from the knuckle so that everything turns correctly... Sometimes nothing is easy!

Dale,
I saw a write-up on 4x4wire where a guy had rotated the knuckles (? the round "bulbs" on each side of the axle itself) backward some degrees so that all of the steering components were again located directly above the axle instead of in front of it. Unfortunately they just changed some stuff over there, but it was a good article and looked fairly easy, jsut time consuming. This would probably go a long way toward fixing your problem.
