So heres the deal. I would like to go to the SE4RJ in May. My question is this. The rules of the park (and im guessing most parks) require a tow strap and tree saver. Now i dont have a winch, so how would a tree saver benefit me. Anyways, any advice would be great. Also, any advice on proper recovery would be GREAT. Thanks

Donno if your looking but 4wheelparts.com has the SmityBuilt XRC8 8000lb winch for faily cheap and also offers a LIFETIME warrentee for $50.00. Also if you search ebay for Gorilla winches they also sell really cheap winches and have a 6 month warrentee.. Have fun out there and BE SAFE/SMART while doing any recovery moves..

 

I don't have a winch but I carry a treesaver, 3-4 straps, 3 d-rings and this hunk of junk:

bought that thing in 1992 and it has paid for itself many times overs. http://www.wyeth-scott.com/ has been making them for over a 100 years...

oh and most places/organized trail runs do not allow chains or tow straps with integrated tow hooks.

You need to carry both a stretchy recovery strap and a non-stretchy tree strap at the very minimum (in addition to recovery points front and rear of course). There will be many instances where you will need more than one tree strap for the winch-equipped vehicle.

The treestrap also can serve as an extension to the recovery strap and as an attachment device by choking the frame or something else solid.

So long as you're not 'wheeling alone or extreme trails, you won't need a winch (manual OR electric). If you DO, the best thing is the Hilift accessory kit as it is much more of a "multitasker" than a winch is.
