If you want cheap and infefective, more for looks then you can always go with the coil spacers in teh front and blocks in the back. If you plan to do any real wheeling i wouldnt recomend it.
All i can say is that on my 04 taco i did some research and decided to go with donahoe racing 3" lift adjustable coilovers. They werent hard to install, ive beat the hell out of them for 17 thousand miles, and i havent had any issue yet to speak of. I just recently lowered my front differential 3/4 an inch with the allpro kit, i didnt have any problems with my CV axles without lowering it, i just chose to as an extra precaution. I put 2" lift blocks on my rear axle because i was frankly just out of money, it is the worst investment ive put into this truck, and i am switching them out for allpro 3" lift 5 leaf packs now that i have some spare cash.
Everything about your automobile will come down to personal choice, no matter what everybody elses oppinions are. That being said, my opinion from experience is that if you want to wheel it, dont cheap out because it will bite you in the butt later, but if you just want to look good and be gentle to it then do what you wish.
