A tundra...

 

You adjust your driveing, with it that low, don't use the gas and let it idol up everything. You won't rip anyting if you don't use the gas. Need to "bump it" shift back to 125 to 1.

 

Joe does, he's been to Arizona and wheeled with us. Imagine a 65 year old guy with no fear and a huge truck.

 

As long as he doesn't have the actual sticker, he can hang...



I was just saying that an actual gearing of something like 100:1 with an auto is MORE than enough...

EDIT: Let me see if I can get some numbers we can crunch for the Tundra and see what we are working with.

 

Alright, got some actual specs for the V8 tundra.

First gear = 2.804
t-case = 2.566
diffs = 3.909

That makes stock crawl ratio given 2 for the torque converter:
2.804 x 2.566 x 3.909 x 2 = 56.251010352

Now add in a crawler with stock 2.28 gears and you get:
2.804 x 2.28 x 2.566 x 3.909 x 2 = 128.25230360256

That is a very respectable crawl ratio, no doubt.

Now lets take a look at it with 4.7s:
2.804 x 4.7 x 2.566 x 3.909 x 2 = 264.3797486544

That is just to let you know what you are working with Joe. It is up to you to figure out what suits your wheeling needs best. I suggest you try to see if you can ride along with some people that actually have crawl ratios in this range with automatic trannies and see what you dig. Maybe I am over thinking the whole thing but 500 bucks is a big sum of money to this poor college student

 

Steve if you don't mind me asking, how much was the install for your crawler box?

 

There are two 2nd Gen guys with ulimates and auto's, it gets near the limits of using the brakes to stop.

Joe with a V-8 and ultimate would be awesome.

 

3 Grand. For everything, New Marlin Clutch, Gear Driven Case, 4.7 Gears, 2 Custom levers, 2 Short Throw, Install Clutch, Install Crawler, 2 Drive shaft re-tubes, 2 drive shaft balances, Gas to and from Fresno, 5 Nights in Beatuiful Downtown Fresno, Dinner at California Pizza Kitchen-Some Chineese Place and 5 lunches, Bottle of Spray and wash, Gear oil for tranny, and 2 cases, Cut holes for shifters, shifter boots (2), Case of Fat Tire Beer, RORE e-locker skid, 2 Marlin knobs and 2 Marlin T-Shirts. Probably alot more stuff I forgot.

That's quite a bit of stuff for the price.

Marlin did buy me dinner one night though.

 

If he went with 4.7s he would probably have to look for nuetral to stop that beast...

The funny thing is the the newest 2nd gen chain driven case (which we all have) is lower than the old junk cases. 2.28 versus 2.56. This throws their chart off a bit.

 

His son is in the process of re-doing Marlins site and this stuff is really deeply burried in the "old" site. Impossible to find on the new site.

Actually I'm Jack Benny's age and have been that age for 20 years now.

I'll be in Moab the last week in September - hopefully the truck will be done then - and I'll run the Rubicon the first week in October. Anyone interested in joining this "old fart" on either of these trails?
