Marlin Extended Stainless Brakeline install problem

I took these to my shop on Friday to have them installed. They claimed that they couldn't put them on because there was no way to retain them. When I got home I looked at it. It looks like it ought to work. I tried a brake line retaining clip from an 85 front that I had laying around and it was too small.

Anyone have these? Do I just need the clips/bracket they sell? Whoever I ordered from said I didn't need them.

Apparently there is a little movement on these things and my guy wouldn't booty fab it. This is the line connection up at the hardline. The connection at the housing looked to be OK.

I had the same problem to deal with. I just took a grinder bit on a die grinder and reemed out the inside of the clip until it was a perfect fit. A file would work too, but be slower.

I found the same thing, some of the aftermarket couplers the clip fit really tight.

This would be a good solution.

Yup... took dremel tool to the clips until they fit, only way to do it. Or call Marlin and ask him if he has a lil' bigger clip maybe.

Ditto with the brake lines from AllPro. Carved them out with a cutting disc in an angle grinder, not pretty but they work perfect.

I just went without the clips. There is about 1/8" of movement, but I never hear any noise from it. How important is it to have the clip?

Important enough. They help keep you from pulling the soft line from the hard line and messing up the harder to replace hard line.

Go to CarQuest and pick up a couple of body shims.

They're surprisingly cheap from the dealer, under $10 each for the solid axle type. But then again having it fail isn't a good thing either, better safe than barreling downhill out of control.

Sure they're cheap, but more hassle than the soft lines to replace imo. Regardless...more important, like you said, no good to have them come apart while driving.

Which clip are you guys talking about, the one shown on the blue lines?

So if I order the clip I won't have any of these problems?

i had a problem with the brackets on my frame for the pro comps i had.... the nut on the new lines was bigger than the 6 sided hole in the bracket... a little bit of dremel tool fixed it... i placed the line in, and it seemed unsteady ... well there is a groove on the side that came through the bracket... a stock E clip off the stock rubber line fit right into the slot... havent had any problem and it fits like i want it to fit.... i just installed the rear line... the nut fit fine, and again, i used the E clip to secure it on the other side

Those clips shown are for the front lines which are too long for IFS. You can use them for your SAS though Steve...

The rear clip is on your rig already. (look on the rear housing) My understanding is that a little dremel action will make the stock rear clip work fine. My shop was too lazy to do the mod it looks like. I'll tackle it when the Cruiser coils go on.

Talking

Dremel tool w/ a cutting disc on the OEM clips works like a charm. On the rear it will be something custom...dunno yet.

Close, but I think you were thinking of plastic zip ties, and that's three words.

Cebby,

If you don't have a Dremel tool to ream out that clip let me know and you can borrow mine.
