All 4WD, 4 Cyl Rear TOYOTA 8" rg 30spline 0 XD-20830 $239.99

that's the closest thing I could find for my truck on that aussie locker site, would that work with my 4.10 V6 rear?

might I also recommend that you consider re-gear at the same time. that way you can bump up in tire size and gain ground clearance. 4:88's and 33's to do some wheelin with that locker.

man I wanna do that so bad, but it's just not in my $$$ range right now

I know nothing about gearing and lockers.. say if you get a locker and install it with 4.10's, then bump up to 4.88's a couple years later can you use the same 30 spline locker with that gearing?

I believe the 8" for the regular 4 bangers is different from the 8" for the 4cyl turbo or v6. I would ask Aussie. They emailed me back very quickly and answered every and I mean every question that I had. They'd gladly help you.

Lockright

After I got my Lockright and installed it, all my buddies I go off roading with wanted one. It helps in the mud but it is awesome for climbing and hard angles. I swear I've gone up several places in 2wd that I couldn't in 4wd.

As far as installing it, if you just mark everything and put it back exactly the same and on the same side, it will be fine. the directions call for all kinds of tools and dial calipers, but it isnt necessary. I've put in mine and several others in Toyotas and one GM and they work fine. Here are a few pics:

Chunk removed

Disassembled...

Mark those bearings below and put them back exactly the same...

Question will it fit?

I just bought a Lock right second hand, for the front of my 90. The guy wasnt sure if it would fit with the ADD as it has a different cage. The code is 1611. Can anyone tell me if this is correct for a 1990 IFS with ADD. Sorry Doink, for slightly hijacking.
Cheers
Derek

1611 doesn't say anything about the hilux, but if yours has 7.5" front diff, looks like it'll work

I searched all the posts I could find on yotatech last night about lockers, and it looks for the most part that this is a pretty good locker for the money.

Even though the install doesn't look too bad, I'd really rather have a mechanic do it because I've never torn apart a 3rd.
How much do you guys think someone would charge to install one of these?

my wallet hates you, yotatech lol but I say

hey solid!

i read through the info regarding this locker, i am presuming it is for the rear only as i didnt see any indication of it being suitable for the front. correct me if i missed that part! i would like to get lockers for my rig but right now, i cant justify spending large $$$ on the arb setup. the aussie and lock rite look pretty good to me, pricing is decent also. i just need to find someone in canada (ontario) that sells them.

thanks,

lee

yeah that one is just for the rear, the 1611 I linked a few posts up will work for the front depending on what year you have... I wouldn't wanna put one up front in my truck cause of the extra stress it'd put on the cv axle's.

dude, seriously, please listen to me. Coming from a guy that didnt even know what a punch was, it was so easy. Granted I had guys helping me out the entire time, I did it again lol the second time all by myself. It was easy but I think the charge is about 100 dollars.

welp, I'm tempted to do it myself.. just don't know anyone that could help me if I ran across a problem. I thought it was pretty simple but when I read this write-up , it got me a bit confused lol... mainly because I don't know what everything's called in the differential and when they say the name of it I dunno what the heck they're talking about haha And I don't have anything to set the backlash with /end rant

Doink, are you still thinking of getting one of these? sorry for hijacking a bit, just got really excited finally realizing it might actually be in my $ range to be able to get locked! :bounce2:

Well, the 1611 does fit the front with ADD. Cause i put it in yesterday and everything fit perfectly. Havnt put the diff back on the rig yet cause of rain. Not a complicated job, just need to be methodical with the diff components and clean everything very well before reassembling everything.

well the most I've done is on my truck, which is change the fuel filter, oil and the oil in the transmission, transfer case and front and back diff.. dist. cap and rotor, new wires and TPS. and rotate tires lol, that's about it.. never worked on gears or anything like that.
How are you liking your locker so far? does it make any clunks or anything if you start out at a light or shift giving it a lot of gas?

amorphous, they list lockright's for tacomas... so I'm guessing the tacoma differentials are the same as 4 runners?
