Go For It!!! As long it is in overall good shape...
It's just a baby and these things can go through hell and back!!!
Just my .02...
My friend has a Jeep...
I have been trying to convert him to Yota's for the past year, but he is stubborn...
Nothing against jeep, but after the last tow to the garage for him...
It's getting old....

this is awesome to see another jeep person be converted. Congrats on the great find. A good looking '83 and older is hard to find. The lines on the body are sick too.

The L-series trannies are the weakest of the Toyota manuals, and swapping to a later G,W,or R usually involves some work as the L's are shorter than the later trannies.

Transfer case is "the" 4cyl Toyota t-case. Good stuff.

Axles are good pieces. The great thing about Toyota axles is the 3rd member setup lets you easily upgrade gears and lockers without much difficulty or gear knowledge. Just buy a set up 3rd and bolt it in. You'll probably want 5.29 gears, maybe 4.88's if the trannies a 4 speed. I have over a year of wheeling on 36" IROKs and a 4.7:1 t-case on my bone stock Toyota axles, locked front and rear with no problems, and this is with the more powerful V6. And the axles had seen much more torture on 33" and smaller tires prior to that. Just be smart about the birfs and don't throttle up in a bind situation or with the wheels cranked.

You'll need at least 3" of suspension lift to run most Hi-steer kits, but it sounds like you already have the lift, so you're good there.

The low miles may be somewhat worrisome if the truck has sat around for years without being driven. That's bad on seals/gaskets.

Overall sounds like a fine rig. Depending on the mechanical condition and how the mods such as lift have been accomplished, and how good the tires are it's probably somewhere from $750 to $1750 rig.

i just got rid of my 80 on 33s with a locked rear marlin sliders, 20r/22r combo and lifted for 1200 and a p89. i could have gotten just 1600 straight up but like the toy i got.

get a aussie locker for the rear

sliders from trail gear

tcase gears from trail gear. Youll run anything. you can also do a doubler tcase, but it cost more. then again you are getting 200:1 ratio and lots o' options.

Anything to look out for while checking it out/driving it?

I don't know if the last owner abused it or not.
