Help for a newb
I just bought a '87 toyota 4x4 pickup. I live in maine, needed a cheap truck and anything over 25 years old can be reg as an antique and thus not require a state inspection.
I had the truck inspected anyway and this was the facts:
chassis as several small rust holes.
master cylinder leaks, front brakes only right now.
parking brake dont work.
front shocks leaking.
all for tires have some dryrot (I didnt think they looked bad)
couple of the rear brake lines rotted
muffler/cat rotted
small leak at manifold (gasket I think)
Oil leaks at top of motor, valve gasket I think.
Play on right front wheel bearing.
Front fenders rotted, easy to fix.
Big list right! Well, it has 210k and was only $600. Starts, runs strong, 4wd works, trans is decent.
So, this really shouldnt be on the road but I need a truck to haul trash. But I dont want here to stay in this state.
So, what should I expect it to cost to have the frame repaired?
I think I can patch the manifold leak with JB weld. But the rest of the exhuast will need replacing. Is there a cheap source for a stock/aftermarket system?
Are the front shocks hard to replace? and how much will stock ones cost?
I found fenders for $41 on ebay, so that will be easy to fix.
I dont know if I can do a master cylinder on my own. Is it hard? I have done things like rear struts on a 89 camary, a turbo on a '91 volvo, thermestates, radiators ect. Basic repairs on many cars. Never done a master cylinder tho.
Any help/advice/resources you guys can give will be great. enjoy the pics of my new project!
