Heim Steering Kit

Just installed Total Chaos Heim Steering Kit, while I was at it, I added the urethane rack bushings, boots replaced, upgraded to Tacoma lower balljoints(more beefy steering arms) and finally changed my springs.

did you ever convert over to manual hubs bruce? i know that you had bought all the parts, i am just trying to figure out when doing manual hubs with your set-up if you use the tacoma outer joint with the tundra shaft and inner joint or what.... i would be interested with the heim steering kit with my stock width even...the boots on my tie rod joints are torn on both sides and toyota says the don't stock just the boots, you have to replace the entire tie rod.

Wheel travel remained the same, I decided to do all this work since I finally got a 4 days off.... Thursday I tore apart and rebuilt my front diff assy, due to a air leak in the locker. It looks like one of the O-rings was damaged during the inital installation a year ago and finally went out in Moab. At least it gave me a chance to see how the gears are wearing. If you noticed in the photo, the diff and axles are still out, I took that picture Friday and today I finished the rest. It started to rain, so my powersteering cooler will have to wait....

Yea, I have everything I need to convert to manual hubs, but I still need to fabricate a press to separate the front CV's from the axles, without doing any damage. I have designed a press, now I need to build it first. Then I need to dissassemble the manual spindle assy and mount everything on a set of ABS spindles that I have as well.

Total Chaos is planning on a Heim steering kit for a stock width truck as well.

thats cool, i just converted to manual hubs using all taco parts i bought off of ttora, i took both completely assembled knuckle sets to my local toyota shop and they did all of the disassembly, pressed in new bearings and all of the reassmbly and only charged me for 2 hours of labor at a "reduced" rate. at that price it wasn't worth fooling with any of it.

the talk of lowered prices on long travel kits is rekindeling my interest in the long travel set-up for my 4runner in the future.
