Talking E-locker into a 94 4rnr....

Ok, I am kind of new here and perhaps I didn't search hard enough, but I was wondering about swapping an e-locker into my 4rnr (3.0 5spd). Would the entire rear axle from an E-locker equipped 4rnr "bolt" in? or should I "retro-fit" the e-locker setup into my current rear? If there is a link that covers this topic please post it and I will humbly go to the link and be quiet. The reason I am leaning towards a manual locker is b/c I have heard that a locker in the rear in light snow conditions on the highway can make the truk squirrely. Is this true if so I'd rather not go for a detroit style locker. Thanks

I would just retrofit the existing housing to accept the elocker.

i wanted to go that route but didnt have the tools or know how to do the job myself. i took it to a shop and with the modification and wiring to make it all work it would have cost more then an ARB air locker....so thats what i got instead and resold the e-locker. just something to consider if you are not doing the work yourself.

i put a elocker into my front end [82 SA] and detroit in the rear... any locker in the back will make the truck squirrely [given its 'locked'] if you have a heavy foot.

here's my .O2...
you don't know when the detroit will lock/unlock and when it does sometimes it really kicks the truck around [spontaneous drift action]...

the elocker/arb/welded [spool] locked is 'on' all the time which i feel makes it more predictable... ie no shock loading when the detroit locks...

if you can foot the bill, put the selectable in the rear, it gives you the best of both.... i don't think you can swap the whole axle as its wider then yours, and the 4link is different. swapping the thirdmember into your axle would make more sense...

I looked at doing that to my 4runner for the E-locker and extra width. I found the mounting to be a big enough difference to not make the swap worth it. You might as well do a custom 4link at that point. Also, the stock rear sway bar will not clear the e-locker motor.
