E-Locker for 97 4runner

Looking to put a electronic locker for my rear diff in my 97 4runner sr5 and wasn't sure where to look or what to get. I hear some talk about some of the 96-02's coming with a locker for the rear diff and wanted to know if that was available aftermarket and also the TRD one for a tacoma... is that able to be installed in the 4runner??

Use the search, lots of info around on Yotatech about elocker installs. I did mine, if you're close to BC, Canada then I know one for sale locally.

youll have to do some fab work to fit it in your rear housing or you'll have to pay someone to do a little cutting/welding. i cant remember who just did a swap on here but they had a third gen and i think they just swapped whole the whole axel for an axel with an e-locker already inside it from the factory. it is not an aftermarket add-on where you can just put it in, modification is required. here are some instructions: http://67.122.16.97/carterman/4runner/mods/locker/

I had my housing modified to have one put in, not a very big deal imo. Then there is the wiring option of using the original toyota setup, or wire it up with relays from scratch.

Will it be a straight swap to switch out the whole rear axle or better luck doing the mods to the diff to fit the locker??

hard,

you really need to read a few threads on the topic so you can make up your own mind as to which route is better for you. no one knows your capability as a mechanic/fabricator or your $$$ situation.

search:

- elocker mod
- elocker retrofit

I was really considering elocker. Added it up and ARB was about the same price if you want onboard air compared to a USED elocker and a Trutrac. Some really great deals out there for ARB's - basically get the compressor for free.
