so when does the 3rd gen rear bumper come out? something like your tube taco wrap around with some plate to cover the ugly exposed areas and a tire carrier.....that is my thought at least!

Cool, Jason. Thanks for the input! I primarily want to get away from the stupid fatigue-prone trailer axle style hinge I had previously. I'm considering any and all types of bushings and joints while focusing on double shear and/or double hinge designs for minimizing fatigue. Looks like you did a good job on Lance's bumper. I can totally relate to the "lack of profitability" issue on some of the custom things I've designed/built.

That is one mean looking truck. You have got to love getting all this stuff before any other 4th gen. I like how yall matched the bumpers to the grey plastic cladding. I dont realy like the grey plastic cladding but when you put those bumpers with it, it looks great!

You also might consider barrel hinges. I use a 1in barrel hinge on my Tacoma swing out gates. (at the bottom of the page) http://www.demello-offroad.com/taco_sqr.html

Those are the smaller of the two. The barrel hinge has a .5in ball bearin inside. I use those then I wrap and weld a small piece of thin steal around it and secure it too what I'm attaching. They have a really smooth action and are pretty dan strong. Plus I use two of them not one.

So far they have been awesome!

so jason, are there any plans to build a 3rd gen rear bumper? something like what you are doing for the tacos only with some plates on the side.

I keep saying I'm goin to but it's hard to find time. I have a 3rd gen I just don't have time to make one.

Lance,

For a few bucks you can just turn the tailpipe sideways so it comes out behind the tire.

It would be protected as it is inside a line from the bottom of the tire to the bottom of your bumper.

That last resonator in the stock system is probably not needed as the stock muffler is huge BUT you can always use a resonated tip like I did with the custom system I just had made..

Jason, did you even pursue making more of these? I have a 2005 4Runner Limited that I use at drilling rigs in Canada. I just punched off the driver's rear bumper extension last night, and rather than repair it, I was looking for a complete, new, rugged replacement. I found this thread, and you.

Second, are any frame changes necessary, or is it a bolt-on.

Finally, is it available without the spare tire carrier, and would the spare still fit underneath in the stock location?
