cv joint woes

I drive a 98 tacoma with automtic locking hubs thats lifted ~3 inches with the saw coilovers. Unfortunatley this is the max lift without risking cv joint damage. Anybody know the pros and cons of the modifiacations that will remedy my munched cv's. Specifically a diff drop (does it work?) or installing manual locking hubs. thanks again guys

First, Welcome!

Second, many of the basic questions regarding your situation will already be in the archives of this site. Play around with the "Search" feature listed above and I bet that you find the answers to those questions and more.

The diff drop works just fine It reduces the impact on your CV's by an amount equal to the drop. So, if you are lifted to 3" and install a 1/2" drop, your CV's only think you are lifted 2.5" the dowside is potential interference with your skid plate and a loss of ground clearance equal to the drop.

The manual hub swap can be a very expensive proposition. The upside is that it's almost a perfect fix to IFS CV angle problems. At least it decreases the wear to the point where they can be insignificant. It also can have a positive effect on your gas mileage. The downside is the cost and the fact that you are changing out a lot of parts. You also lose the ability to simply press a button or shift a lever to be in 4x4 when the hubs are unlocked.
